Inspired by the Qing dynasty and notably the reign of Emperor Qianlong (1711-1799), this Chinese porcelain vase in the form of a baluster has the codes of 18th century porcelain, but is actually from the end of the 19th century. The seal 大 清 乾 隆 年 製 under its base translating as Da Qing Qianlong Nian Zhi or "Made in the great Qing dynasty, reign of Qianlong"
Its red iron or coral appearance is typical of this reign where amber colors were highlighted. The taste of its rich, floral-patterned decoration is inspired by lotus flowers in spring, although its color recalls autumn.
The 'Hu' shape is that of a baluster vase with a flared neck, Hu vases are traditionally made of bronze and are used to contain incense & perfumes in temples & rituals. Its arched shape makes it a very beautiful porcelain work, perfect for decorating or for collecting.
