Crucifixion Of Christ - Flemish Master Of The 17th Century
Artist: Maître Flamand
Crucifixion of Christ with the Virgin, Magdalene and Saint John the Evangelist
This beautiful painting on canvas depicts the dramatic scene of the crucifixion, with the three most representative characters of the last part of Christ's earthly life. Following the traditional canons, the Mother on the left is desperate and prays with her hands joined, Mary Magdalene is kneeling at the foot of the cross and Saint John the Evangelist, the favorite Apostle, observes the mourning women on the right. Two Cherubs participate in the scene arranged on either side of the Cross. It is a typically Flemish work of the '600 which describes with remarkable elegance one of the most developed themes by the Masters from all over Europe. The suggestions drawn from Italian painting are evident. Canvas size 47 x 60 frame (reproduction) 60 x 72 The work is in excellent condition, perfectly clean and relined
