" Nantes Cherrywood Wardrobe, Louis XV Style – First Half Of The 19th Century"
This superb regional armoire, known as a "gendarme's hat" armoire, exquisitely embodies the aesthetics of the Louis XV style. Crafted from solid cherry wood, it features two majestic medallion doors at the front. These doors, slightly projecting beyond the legs, are securely held in place by three brass hinges each. The armoire closes with its original lock, in perfect working order, complete with its key. Long, finely chiseled brass escutcheons with flowing lines adorn the front, highlighting the meticulous attention to detail. Between the two doors, a central pilaster stands out, topped with two decorative elements featuring three flutes. The upper rail is delicately carved with a basket of flowers, an emblematic motif of the Louis XV style. The simply crafted cornice lends the piece a discreet elegance. The sides of the cabinet are composed of canted uprights, adorned with stopped fluting, which terminate at the bottom in snail feet. The interior, currently fitted with a shelf, can accommodate two additional levels or a hanging rail as needed, offering great flexibility. With its warm hue, generous storage capacity, and timeless lines, this Loire Valley piece will appeal to antique furniture enthusiasts seeking a piece that is both functional and imbued with authenticity. ********Period: First half of the 19th century.
