A Provençal Commode of the Year, Louis XVI Period, Circa 1780. This sublime Provençal commode of the year, in molded and carved walnut, dates from the Louis XVI period and rests on tapered legs. Opening with two drawers without a crossbar in the front, it is topped with a beautiful white marble slab with gray veining. Its uprights are straight with fluted, rusticated moldings. The tapered legs are finely carved with vertical and geometric decoration. The connecting blocks are decorated with rosettes. The sides have framed panels with geometric decoration. The shaped crossbar is finely carved with a central relief decoration. The richly carved front is decorated with garlands, flowers, foliate scrolls, and a central medallion featuring a female profile in the antique style. The keyhole escutcheons and drawer pull are in gilt bronze. Beautiful wood, lovely patina. A piece of very high-quality furniture with refined and elegant lines.
