"Gallé Vase With Blue Bindweed Motifs"
Bindweed Vase by Emile Gallé (1846-1904). Emile Gallé was an Art Nouveau artist and designer, and founder of the École de Nancy. Throughout his career, Gallé experimented with various techniques, including glassmaking, ceramics, and cabinetmaking. A great botany enthusiast, Gallé created a naturalistic Art Nouveau decorative arts style centered around flowers and insects. He incorporated them into his glass creations. Gallé produced a colossal number of glass pieces. He opened a glassworks in 1894, which allowed him to mass-produce many pieces, although some of them remain unique. These Art Nouveau glass pieces were used to create tulip shades, bowls, and candle holders in pâte de verre for chandeliers, lamp bases and shades, and more. He also created a significant number of glass vases commonly known as Gallé Vases.
