Great Italian painting from the second half of the 18th century. Oil on canvas artwork depicting a religious subject, Madonna and Child, Saint John the Baptist, and Saint Roch, of excellent pictorial quality. The vertically arranged painting is characterized by vibrant colors and a pleasing perspective, ideal for antique dealers and collectors of sacred art.
Signed and dated lower right, Prosper Sclave 17.. (see photo), attributed to the Veronese painter Prospero Schiavi (1730-1803). Additional documentation is missing. The painting has undergone conservative restoration, relining, replacement of the stretcher, and restoration of color in small areas (see photo).
The painting is in overall good condition, except for the lower section (near the feet of Saint Roch), which has suffered slightly from restoration and small paint losses (see photo). The painting is adorned with a small gilded frame from the 20th century. Artwork of excellent luminosity and great visual impact, it probably originated as an altarpiece for a private chapel. Internal dimensions: H 213 x W 103 cm.
