Green-glazed Mingqi Pottery. Ming Dynasty (1368-1644)
Superb Chinese Mingqi from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). A representation of a court official in green glazed terracotta. Dressed in a long robe and a tall headdress. Mingqi were placed in tombs and accompanied the illustrious deceased into the afterlife, ensuring they lacked nothing. This statuette has a very fine presence, its glaze cracked by time. Reference: a similar Mingqi in the Cernuschi Museum collection (MC 5781).
