"Italian Marquetry Secretary - Late 19th Century"
A rare and elegant secretary desk in ebonized wood and marquetry, likely of Italian manufacture, dating from the 19th century. The piece is distinguished by the richness and refinement of its marquetry decoration with floral and scrolling motifs, centered on a floral basin enlivened by birds—a composition typical of the Italian decorative repertoire inspired by Neoclassical and late Baroque tastes. The front is enlivened by twisted balusters on the uprights, and the secretary opens with a drop-front revealing a writing surface with two drawers, also inlaid. The light stringing, probably of bone or vegetable ivory, highlights the lines of the piece and enhances its elegance. The keyhole escutcheons and decorative bronze mounts are original. Very good overall condition, keys included. Dimensions: - Height 141 cm - Width 72 cm - Depth 38 cm
