"Sevres Porcelain Bowl From The Second Half Of The 18th Century"
Small but impressive Sèvres porcelain bowl in a pale blue, typical of French manufacture, dating back to the second half of the 18th century. It features a pale blue background decorated with gold leaf scrolls, a central medallion depicting landscape scenes of gardens with perimeter walls and marble vases, and a bouquet of flowers in the foreground, meticulously painted in vibrant, brilliant colors on both the front and back of the bowl. The bowl is mounted on a high-quality gilded bronze structure. The base is decorated with shell, scroll, and curlicues, with female figures seated at the four corners supporting the bowl. The sides are decorated with fabric festoons on the front and back, and floral motifs on both sides. The upper portion of the bowl features a gilded bronze decoration, all worked and pierced with a floral motif, with two handles depicting two winged putti playing music on the sides. The cup is marked underneath with the classic hallmark of Sèvres porcelain: two crossed Ls with the letter "m" inside, indicating the date 1765. Below the hallmark is the letter "D" followed by four dots, identifying the decorator. From our research, we have determined that the decorator in question is CHARLES-NICOLAS DODIN, active between 1754 and 1803. He was a renowned miniaturist painter of the Sèvres factory for his creations with refined pictorial details. He signed with the letter D followed by dots or the letter K.
