"Painting By Théodore Levigne (1848-1912): The Conversation "
A very beautiful, lively landscape depicting a conversation between elegant ladies in an 18th-century park by Théodore Levigne, signed and dated 1903 lower right, in a Louis XV style frame with striking decorative motifs and in perfect condition on its original canvas. A high-quality work, entirely representative of the output of this great artist who began his career very early (at age 6). A native of Lyon since 1856, he attended the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Lyon from 1860 to 1862. He entered the studio of Jean Pierre Lays, a floral painter, and at 15, he received first prize for painting with a portrait. Caruelle d'Aligny declared at that time: "The history of art offers no precedent for such a distinguished work relative to the age of the young artist, who was barely 15." A work was exhibited at the Grand Palais in Paris in 1865. Museums: St Nazaire, Lyon, Chambéry, Nice, Orange, Nuit St Georges, Tournus, Rumilly, Villefranche sur Saône etc...
