Important terracotta statue depicting a draped male figure in the classical style, holding a cup, probably Bacchus (Dionysus), god of wine and revelry. The vegetal wreath, the raised cup, and the swaying pose directly reference Bacchic iconography from Antiquity. A high-quality piece, characteristic of the Neoclassical taste of the Restoration period (circa 1815–1830), and inspired by antique models then very fashionable in decorative and workshop sculpture. Beautifully modeled, with meticulous treatment of the drapery and harmonious proportions. It rests on a molded circular base.
