Napoleon III Table Clock. Calamine, Bronze, Etc. Samuel Marti Et Cie., Philippe Mourey.
A Napoleon III table clock. Calamine, bronze, etc. Samuel Marti et Cie., Philippe Mourey. France, second half of the 19th century.
It shows some damage.
There are marks on the back of the case and a seal on the mechanism. The table clock has a dial with blue numerals on a white background, Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals engraved on the metal for the minutes. It has a base decorated with animal claws, plant motifs, and discs. On the base rests a female figure wearing a tunic, accompanied by a winged child carrying a quiver of arrows on its back; these figures could represent Venus and Cupid. The Paris-type movement bears a hallmark referring to the bronze medal awarded to Samuel Marti et Cie. At the Universal Exhibition in Paris (France) in 1855 or 1860, the watchmaking company retained the hallmark until 1889 (other experts date this hallmark between 1867 and 1900). On the reverse, near the base, is engraved the inscription "PH. Mourey 6 8," which refers to Philippe Mourey (active from 1840 to 1910/20), a French bronze caster and watchmaker.
Weight: 25 kg. Dimensions: 61 x 20 x 56 cm
