Pierre-Jules Mêne was a renowned French sculptor specializing in animal sculptures, often signed "PJ Mene" or "PJ Mêne".
He is considered one of the pioneers of animal sculpture in the 19th century, particularly for his bronzes depicting dogs, horses, and other animals, which were highly prized by the bourgeoisie of the time.
Mêne opened his own foundry in 1837.
