"17th Century Spanish School – The Thatched Cottages – Pen Drawing, Brown Wash And Gouache."
The drawing measures 31 × 26 cm. Its antique carved and gilded frame measures 48 × 40 cm. This very old drawing on blue paper depicts workers constructing a thatched roof: one on a ladder, arranging the straw, the other carrying the thatch. In the background, a man can be seen milking a goat. This very old drawing retains its intense color, despite the more than four centuries that separate us from its creation. The high quality of the technique and the balance in the composition are undoubtedly the work of an excellent artist of his time. The scene, rendered with great realism, offers a rare glimpse into rural life and manual labor in 17th-century Spain.
