"Seaside By Eugène Desjobert"
This windswept landscape features a group of trees with slender trunks, bent by the sea spray. The composition is organized around a winding path that leads the eye towards the horizon, where the restless sea can be glimpsed beneath a luminous, nuanced sky. The brushwork is fluid and naturalistic, with particular attention paid to atmospheric variations: a slightly veiled sky, vibrant foliage, and a ground rendered with subtle impasto. A small figure dressed in red, placed at the foot of the trees, provides a human scale and enhances the depth of the landscape. Eugène Desjobert, a painter born in Châteauroux and a student of Jolivard and d'Aligny, is represented in numerous museums. Desjobert belongs to the tradition of late 19th-century French landscape painters, sensitive to the legacy of the Barbizon school and a realistic approach to nature. Note: oil on canvas, relined, with some restorations and repainting.
