A charming pair of portraits depicting a bourgeois couple from the early 19th century. The gentleman, dressed in a blue coat with a wide collar and a white cravat, is shown half-length against a delicately sketched landscape background. His wife, wearing a bonnet adorned with ribbons and foliage, sports a light-colored, high-waisted dress typical of the Empire style. The pastels are in antique blackened wood frames decorated with pearls and gilt fillets.
