Pair Of Pastel Portraits, Early 19th Century
A charming pair of portraits depicting a bourgeois couple from the early 19th century. The gentleman, dressed in a blue coat with a wide collar and a white cravat, is shown half-length against a delicately sketched landscape background. His wife, wearing a bonnet adorned with ribbons and foliage, sports a light-colored, high-waisted dress typical of the Empire style. The pastels are in antique blackened wood frames decorated with pearls and gilt fillets. They are in good overall condition, with some minor wear to the frames (small losses, wear to the black border).
