"Small Format Canvas By Nicolas Manev (1940-2018)"
This small-format abstract painting is by Nicolas Manev, born in Bulgaria in 1940. He studied at the Sofia School of Fine Arts and then, in 1962, at the Paris School of Fine Arts. A great traveler, Manev journeyed the world in search of natural wonders, such as the desert expanses of the Sahara and the dunes of the North Sea. Cities also inspired him and nourished his work. His pictorial language oscillates between abstraction and figuration. His work, encompassing numerous oil paintings, watercolors, lithographs, and tapestries, is represented in the collections of over 30 countries, comprising 3,000 works. Despite its small size, this painting is extremely dynamic, with lines etched into the paint. The color is a subtle monochrome of blue and light gray, perhaps depicting one of the cities he loved to explore. It is in its original black American-style frame, and was purchased directly from the artist in the 1980s.
