Early 18th Century Silver Onion-shaped Clock With Hour And Quarter Striking Mechanism, Signed Lenoir In Paris
Artist: Lenoir à Paris
A very rare early 18th-century silver onion-shaped clock with a striking mechanism by the watchmaker (Lenoir in Paris).
The enamel dial features Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes, and period hands in burnished steel. The movement is in gilt brass, with a verge escapement, chain, fusee, and striking of the hours and quarters on a bell on demand, activated by pressing the bow.
A magnificent gilt and silver brass rooster is decorated with animals, foliage, and flowers.
The plain silver case has a hinged back, revealing the interior with its pierced decoration to allow the striking mechanism to pass through.
The movement and striking mechanism are in working order.
I am available for any further information or additional photos.
