"Lithograph Signed By Catherine Viollet, Numbered 30/60, Circa 1986"
Lithograph signed lower right Catherine Viollet and numbered lower left 30/60. Circa 1986. Framed under glass in good condition. Dimensions: 76 x 56 cm (sight size). Born in 1953 in Chambéry, Catherine Viollet is the only woman to have been associated with the Figuration Libre movement. Propelled onto the Parisian art scene at a very young age, she exhibited in the early 1980s alongside Robert Combas, Hervé Di Rosa, Rémi Blanchard, and François Boisrond, before defining her own style, somewhere between figuration and abstraction. Her expressive and sensitive gestures find admirable expression in lithography on stone. In her studio, she has produced some very beautiful botanical prints and a few delicate figures reminiscent of Attic pottery. Our reflection on the superimposition of colours in Hagia Triada (1987) led me to deepen my approach to reduction techniques and the use of a drawing sometimes in positive and sometimes in negative.
