Monumental Russian icon. 1832. This Russian icon depicts Saint Demetrius of Rostov, also known as Dimitri, Metropolitan of Rostov and Miracle Worker. The central figure is the saint, shown in his episcopal vestments (white mitre and omophorion). He holds an episcopal crosier in his left hand and makes a gesture of blessing with his right. The Cyrillic text at the top of the icon identifies the figure as the "Metropolitan of Rostov, Miracle Worker." Two small medallion images on the left side of the icon depict icons of the Mother of God, likely specific miraculous icons associated with the region or the saint's cult.
