The decorations and numerals are stamped and blackened with ink.
The inscriptions on the lid are illegible.
The inside of the lid is decorated with an anthropomorphic crescent moon and sun, as well as flowers.
The paper base of the compass is decorated with a fleur-de-lis pointing north.
The needle ends in a heart shape.
The glass is set directly into the wood.
The hinges and hooks are made of wire.
