Sandoz-christofle / Knife Rest
A set of twelve silver-plated animal knife rests, designed by Edouard-Marcel Sandoz for Gallia-Christofle in the 1930s, during the Art Deco period.
The set comprises six different animal designs, each present in two examples, for a total of twelve pieces: two polar bears, two parrots, two greyhounds, two cats, two dachshunds, and two pigs. The animals are stylized with finesse and restraint, in a decorative style emblematic of Sandoz's work and Gallia's productions between the two World Wars.
The knife rests are made of silver-plated metal. The Gallia/Christofle hallmarks are present on the underside of the pieces. The silver plating is in very good condition, without wear or loss; the layer of silver metal is intact. A simple cleaning is all that's needed.
The set is kept in its original Gallia box, itself in excellent condition.
