• Biscuit porcelain figurine with mythological decoration – Cupid and Psyche • Period: late 19th – early 20th century. An important white porcelain biscuit figurine depicting Cupid and Psyche, a famous mythological subject embodying love, passion, and abandon, very popular in the decorative arts of the late 19th century. The scene illustrates the winged Cupid leaning tenderly over the swooning Psyche, in a highly lyrical composition inspired by Neoclassical models. The treatment of the figures, the delicacy of the drapery, and the overall balance attest to a high-quality decorative production. Cupid's wings are original and removable, mounted using an old interlocking system with wooden tenons, a method commonly used at the time to facilitate molding, firing, and transporting the pieces. This method of assembly is perfectly consistent with manufacturing practices of the late 19th – early 20th century and in no way constitutes a repair. The biscuit porcelain has a beautiful matte finish, highlighting the volumes and the softness of the expressions. The piece rests on its original base. • Dimensions: Width: 31 cm Height: 24 cm • Technique: White porcelain biscuit • Condition: Very good overall condition, original assembly system. A highly elegant decorative piece with a strong presence, ideal for a classic interior or a decorative sculpture collection.
