The painter most often associated with winter landscapes is David Schulman (1881–1966), a renowned Dutch landscape painter. David Schulman — Dutch landscape painter. Full name: David Schulman. Known primarily for his winter landscapes and views of snow-covered villages, but he also painted other landscapes, harbor scenes, still lifes, and portraits. He came from a family of artists (his father, Lion Schulman, was also a painter and art dealer) and became a prominent figure in the Laren School, a group of painters based around the village of Laren, known for their landscapes and rural scenes painted en plein air. Many of his works depict the Dutch landscape in different seasons, but his winter scenes are particularly popular — with snow-covered villages, fields and farms bathed in soft light.
