"Constant Louche: Saharan Panorama, Algeria. Oil On Canvas, Panoramic Format."
Born in Algiers, he first went to Paris to study at the École des Beaux-Arts, then returned to Algiers where he began exhibiting in 1907. He often painted panoramic landscapes of southern Algeria, and this painting is no exception. This vast landscape illustrates the painter's fascination with the territories of North Africa, which he explored extensively. The composition, viewed from above, opens onto a succession of rocky plateaus, ochre cliffs, and desert plains, stretching to a bluish horizon, all rendered in atmospheric perspective. A tiny human figure animates the foreground and underscores the immensity of the setting, where the human figure appears as a mere passerby in the face of the mineral grandeur. The warm palette of ochre, earth tones, and dusty rose evokes the intense, dry light of the climate, untouched by the distant cold. This magnificent landscape is framed in its original frame, with Arabic text, measuring 70 by 150 cm.
