"Complete Set Of Spinning Tops And Three Pucks, 19th Century Yorkshire Dales"
A complete set of 19th-century skittles and three pucks. This superb set, known as "Skittels," is a magnificent example of 19th-century fairground, folk, and pub games and is a collector's item. It is typical of pubs in the west of England. Traditional pubs offered games, notably darts, but some more spacious country pubs also had rudimentary bowling alleys where one could play skittles (sometimes with a wave). Skittles is the origin of modern bowling. This set includes nine pins made of light willow wood and three cheeses made of very dense and heavy wood. Traditionally, each player played a "hand" of three throws. This skittles set is sculptural and very decorative. It will beautifully enhance a contemporary interior and can also be displayed as a work of art. In short, these "spinning" pins show a superb patina and a magnificent shape. The set is complete, with beautiful natural wear and patina from age.
