Carbide Bicycle Lamp, Bauer
A carbide lamp is a lamp that uses carbide as an energy source. Carbide reacts with water to produce acetylene (ethyne), generating a bright white flame as it burns. The reaction, in which the water drips onto the carbide, requires precise and complex adjustment. Between 1900 and 1945, the carbide lamp was widely used, notably for vehicle lighting (cars, bicycles, etc.).
