Rare 18th-century Provençal Straw Bench – Known As A “radassier” – With Straw And Gold Paint
Rare 18th-century straw-seated bench.
The openwork back features three curved, ogee-shaped rails.
The uprights are turned and fluted, surmounted by turned olives.
The curved armrests terminate in a pipe shape on a through spindle.
Large front leg, Louis XV style.
The straw covers are carved with flowers and leaves.
Lower rails have a pedal mechanism (Arlesian style).
Original colors and straw seat, in fairly good condition.
Upholstered with hand-quilted cushions, dating from the 18th century.
It is within the correct dimensions for an 18th-century bench, typically seating 3 or 4 people.
