18th Century Stucco Bas-relief With The Triumph Of Ariadne
Refined and
unique stucco bas-relief decorated in grisaille, with a gray background and red
details. The bas-relief depicts the so-called “Triumph of Ariadne”: Ariadne,
daughter of the king of Crete and later wife and lover of Bacchus, rides on a
chariot pulled by panthers, symbols of the god. Ariadne holds a spear and is
crowned by a suspended female figure; in front of her are two satyrs, holding
bunches of grapes and gazing at her. This bas-relief of great taste and
refinement will enhance any space with class and a touch of antiquity.
18th-century Italian craftsmanship.
