Sphinx Clock, Late 18th Century
Large portico clock with plumed sphinxes in white marble, black marble, and chased, gilded, or patinated bronze. These pedestals support the circular white enamel dial with black Roman numerals, signed Chopin à Paris, and are crowned by a reed basin from which two swans are drinking. The clock has a wire-driven movement. Late 18th century. Height: 52 cm, Width: 34.5 cm, Depth: 11 cm. Note: A similar clock is held at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, inv. 2014.112.29.
