An important bronze with a medal patina depicting La Pensée (Thought), an emblematic female allegory in the work of Henri Chapu (1833–1891). The figure, draped in classical style, rises in a highly elegant vertical movement, her raised arm holding a symbolic branch, expressing the elevation of the spirit and reflection. An early cast of very high quality by the prestigious Barbedienne Foundry, bearing the signature H. Chapu and the founder's mark. Precise chasing of the drapery, a deep and even medal patina. A large-format work of decorative and museum quality, typical of late 19th-century French academic sculpture.
