Art Deco Bronze Sculpture – Dancer And Flute Player
Artist: E Monnier
An elegant bronze sculpture with a golden-brown patina, depicting a nude dancer in motion, accompanied by a seated young flautist. This refined composition, imbued with poetry and musicality, is a prime example of Art Deco aesthetics, characterized by its stylized forms, balanced volumes, and high-quality execution. The dancer, rendered with sensuality and dynamism, adopts a graceful and rhythmic pose, while the young musician adds a narrative and decorative dimension to the whole. The modeling is precise, the anatomical details finely rendered, testifying to the sculptor's skill. The sculpture rests on a substantial, double-tiered base of veined black, beige, and ochre marble, adorned on the front with a winged bronze motif, characteristic of the decorative vocabulary of the 1920s and 1930s. The signature "E. Monnier" is engraved on the marble (see photo). A fine example of French craftsmanship, typical of Art Deco decorative sculpture.
