Wonderful Russian Icon Parcel Gilt Champlevé Enamel Icon Of Kazanskaya Mother Of God
Icon of the Virgin of Kazan. Tempera on wooden panel, with a silver oklad (riza) weighing 84 zolotniks (875/1000), entirely embossed, chiselled and engraved with a radiating guilloché pattern and friezes of stylised foliage interlacing around the edge. The haloes of the Virgin and the Infant Jesus, as well as the inscription plate at the bottom, are adorned with champlevé enamels and turquoise-blue, white and royal blue foliage motifs.
