English mahogany armchair, late 19th century (c. 1880-1900)
Fine English late-Victorian mahogany armchair, crafted from solid mahogany with a beautiful aged patina. This piece embodies the classic British design of the late 19th century, featuring graceful lines and refined neoclassical details.
The backrest has an elegant oval medallion shape with a carved frame of scrolls and a pierced central motif; the wide, sweeping arms end in finely carved volutes, while the generous seat is upholstered in light blue velvet with button-tufted (capitonné) detailing and matching piping.
The frame rests on four elegant cabriole legs with turned and carved details, connected by stretchers and fitted with original brass casters, typical of period drawing-room chairs. The rich mahogany displays deep warm reddish-brown tones and pronounced grain, indicative of superior craftsmanship.
Very good condition with recently reupholstered high-quality velvet fabric. A charming and versatile antique, perfect for classic living rooms, studies or Victorian/liberty-style interiors.
