Ancient Pair Of 19th Century Majolica Amphorae

A refined pair of polychrome majolica amphorae, attributed to the Mollica family of Neapolitan ceramists, as evidenced by the crowned "M" mark on the bottom. The amphorae are distinguished by their elegant bodies, entirely painted with lively Arcadian pastoral scenes, animated by figures in rustic garb immersed in sweeping river landscapes, with rural architecture and hills gently fading into the background.
The slender neck is embellished with imposing sculptural handles in the shape of intertwined snakes, crafted with great virtuosity and a strong sense of scenography, an iconic and distinctive element of the most imaginative Neapolitan production.
