Pair Of 19th-century Gien Earthenware Oil Lamps With Renaissance Decoration
Pair of Gien earthenware oil lamps with Renaissance decoration, bronze mounts, and glass reservoirs. A beautiful pair of Gien earthenware oil lamps, decorated in the Renaissance style with rich polychrome ornamentation on a light background, featuring mythological figures, scrolls, grotesques, and cartouches inspired by the Italian Renaissance. The baluster-shaped earthenware bodies rest on finely molded and foliate bronze bases, ensuring an elegant and stable base. The lamps are completed by glass reservoirs (probably blown glass), mounted on metal elements, as well as by their oil burners. The set displays a particularly refined decoration, characteristic of Gien production from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a period during which the factory distinguished itself through the quality and richness of its historicist decorations. These lamps are offered as is, with wear and tear, signs of age, and without any guarantee of functionality; they are intended primarily for decorative use. An elegant decorative set, ideal for a classic interior, a cabinet of curiosities, or a decorative arts collection. Period: late 19th – early 20th century
