Combined Weapon, Bayet Frères Model. Pinfire Revolver And Hinged Dagger From The 19th Century.

A combination gun of the Bayet Frères model, unsigned and highly prized in the 19th century, consists of a pinfire revolver and a hinged dagger fixed under the barrel. The revolver has an open frame. It features an octagonal barrel and a trigger guardless mechanism that folds under the frame for easy pocketing. The cylinder has six 7mm chambers. Ammunition is fed through a side gate held in place by an internal spring. The metal ramrod slides in a guide integrated into the frame and is held by a small leaf spring. The grip consists of a metal frame covered with two carved walnut buttstocks secured by a through screw. The weapon is engraved with foliage. It bears the inscription "Acier Fondu" (Cast Steel) and an "O" surmounted by a star. The revolver is 19 cm long. The dagger blade is the sole subject of Bayet's patent, as the pinfire revolver is largely inspired by the Lefaucheux system. This straight, double-edged blade is fixed under the revolver's barrel. A push-button system releases the blade from the spring attached to the rear of the support, pivots it forward on the hinge, and folds it along the barrel.
