*Tristan Lacroix, a French painter born in 1849 and died in 1914, remains a discreet figure in the art scene of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Although poorly documented, his career falls within the naturalist and post-Romantic tradition of French painting of that era, focused on representing the rural world, landscapes, and scenes of daily life. Tristan Lacroix belongs to the lineage of regional painters concerned with paying homage to a world disappearing at the dawn of modernity.
He was undoubtedly trained in a Parisian or regional workshop, as was common for painters of his generation, but the precise details of his training remain unknown to this day.
Tristan Lacroix's work seems rooted in a traditional figurative style, inherited from naturalism and rural realism, similar to that of painters like Jules Breton or Léon Lhermitte.
Lacroix's compositions are either peaceful scenes, imbued with soft light and a certain discreet lyricism, or scenes of stag hunting at rest or in full action. Tristan Lacroix can also be seen as a skillful animal painter; his depictions of hunting dogs are highly sought after by discerning collectors.
