Plaster Sculpture Depicting Venus. Italy, Late 19th Century.
"Venus at the Bath" – Patinated plaster statue signed A. Papini. Italy, late 19th – early 20th century.
Elegant neoclassical-style full-round sculpture depicting the goddess Venus preparing for her bath, following the classical iconography of the "Venus Pudica". The figure, captured in a soft and sensual pose, gracefully bends to lift the drapery around her hips, revealing her nude body with refined naturalness.
Crafted in white patinated plaster with a marble-like effect, the statue stands out for the quality of its modeling and the attention to anatomical detail, especially in the face, hands, and feet, as well as in the intricate hairstyle and fluid drapery. Signed on the base "Papini A.", a sculptor active in Italy between the 19th and 20th centuries, known for his decorative and allegorical works in academic style.
The figure rests on a tall stepped circular base, integral to the piece, enhancing its monumentality and vertical elegance. The statue, over 180 cm high and weighing approximately 300 kg, is ideal as a sculptural décor element for classical or scenic interiors, or neoclassical-style galleries.
Very good condition, with minor signs of age and a beautiful, even patina. A piece of great aesthetic presence and formal harmony.
