"Circa 1900. Fan From The Casset Company In Lyon"
In the land of silk weavers, it was normal at the turn of the century for prestigious local houses to still exist, catering to the needs of the local bourgeoisie, as well as passing tourists, with precious trinkets and elegant leather goods. Maison Casset was one of these boutiques of that era where one could indulge in high-quality objects, often produced in local workshops. This fan is made in the fashionable Directoire style, with a frame of blond horn engraved and decorated with gold, and a sheet of raw silk embellished with gold and silver sequins and then embroidered. The craftsmanship is very similar to that of the contemporary Parisian firm Duvelleroy. Complete with its original tassel, it is presented in a period box bearing the brand's mark. In the last photo, you can see the charm of the old shop on Rue de la République, sadly replaced by uninspiring storefronts.
