A very fine Siassi bowl made of hard wood with a beautiful patina from use. Collected on the Siassi Islands in Papua New Guinea. This prestigious object served two purposes: its everyday use as a dish during ceremonial rites, and its function as a trade item between the tribes of the Tami and Siassi Islands and tribes from other islands or the mainland coast. It features engraved tribal designs depicting totemic animals (fish, birds) and highlighted with lime. Approx. 74 x 30 cm / h 12 cm / €750 including shipping within Europe / €120 extra for the USA.
