An elegant Louis XVI period chiffonier table, opening with three drawers in the front, resting on four tapered legs ending in their original bronze sabots. This piece is distinguished by the quality of its veneer work, the richness of its stringing decoration, and a construction indicative of regional production directly inspired by Parisian models. Veneers and decoration: The legs and uprights are veneered with rosewood cut on the grain, offering a regular and elegant pattern. On the front, the uprights are adorned with faux fluting, made of maple and black-stained wood, providing an architectural refinement typical of the Louis XVI style. The drawer fronts are veneered with rosewood cut on the flat, arranged with the grain vertically. Each panel is framed with stringing in boxwood and green-stained wood, highlighted by a "faux ribbon" stringing in maple and black-stained wood, creating a very controlled graphic contrast. This frame is finished with a band of amaranth, completing and structuring the decoration of each drawer. The sides are veneered with satinwood panels, set within frames of green-stained wood and boxwood stringing, encircled by a triple blackened wood stringing sandwiched between two maple stringings. As on the front, the whole is finished with a band of amaranth, ensuring perfect decorative consistency on all visible surfaces of the piece. Frame and construction: The frame is made of walnut and poplar, a wood combination characteristic of certain regional pieces from the late 18th century. The back of the piece, left exposed and unveneered, is made of solid walnut. The drawers are made of poplar, with bottoms fitted into rebates on the sides, using a traditional technique. All these characteristics—the combination of walnut and poplar, the richness of the stringing, and the use of the faux ribbon motif—point to a regional production closely inspired by Parisian cabinetmaking, and more specifically reminiscent of Dijon cabinetmaking, renowned for the quality of its work. Top and ornamentation: The piece is topped with its original marble, molded with a groove on the front. This marble is set within an openwork bronze gallery, also original to the period, which runs along the sides and back. Condition and authenticity: This piece is a Louis XVI period work. Original marble, previously restored. Period bronze gallery. Original keyhole escutcheons, most likely replaced at some point in the past. Later locks. Original bronze sabots. Veneers entirely original. The piece has undergone very few restorations throughout its history. It is presented today restored with a French polish that perfectly highlights the fineness of the veneers and decoration. Dimensions: Height: 79 cm Width: 49 cm Depth: 32 cm
