Late 18th Century Louis XVI Marble And Gilt Bronze Pendulum Clock
Artist: A. Meyer
Refined architectural pendulum clock which rests on a white marble base on four legs, richly adorned with gilded bronze applications. Beneath the clock is a fine composition in burnished and gilded bronze depicting marsh reeds. The clock is supported by two elegant black marble plinth columns, each supported by bronze feet shaped like acanthus leaves and decorated with cords and tassels. The column capitals are also gilded bronze and topped with gilded bronze lyre-shaped statues. The clock itself supports a small black marble base adorned with floral and plant decorations, culminating in a pine cone. Surrounded by a garland at the base, the pendulum is depicted as a radiant sun. The white enamel dial with Roman numerals is signed "A. Meyers Paris." The pendulum movement with wire suspension, striking on the hour and half-hour, is fully functional. This clock is unique in its elegance and richness, a piece capable of furnishing a room with refinement. French manufacture, second half of the 18th century.
