Marcel Couderc (1898-1991) - The Clown's Tears
Oil on panel. Original canvas. Signed and dated. This colorful print, imbued with the aesthetic liberalism of the mid-20th-century avant-garde and the decorative spirit of the School of Paris, unfolds before our eyes like a visual elegy on the tragic condition of existence. Beneath the artifice of his mask, where white and crimson feign a vanished joy, the clown with dislocated features appears in a kind of spiritual coming-of-age; thus, his grotesque appearance is transformed, revealing an expressionistic gesture of anguish and incomprehension which, through comedy, lays bare the wound of existence. Image dimensions without frame: 44 x 82 cm / 48 x 86 cm with a custom frame.
