Louis XVI Commode, In Mahogany And Brass, Dating From The 18th Century
A fine Louis XVI period commode, 18th century (circa 1785–1795), in solid mahogany and mahogany veneer, opening with three large drawers in the front and three drawers in the frieze, one of which is narrower in the center. The piece rests on four tapered legs with brass rings and sabots, with fluted uprights characteristic of the Louis XVI period. The front and sides are highlighted with brass stringing, and the top is adorned with an elegant and well-preserved openwork brass gallery. The brass drawer pulls, antique locks, and paneled back attest to its high-quality early craftsmanship. (The marble top has been restored.)
