"Bust Of Tsar Nicholas I (1796-1855), Attributed To Fyodor Kowschenkow, Circa 1830"
Ormolu. Attributed to the Russian sculptor and former serf Fyodor Kowschenkow (1785–1850, St. Petersburg). Kowschenkow depicted Tsar Alexander I, brother of Nicholas I, as a token of gratitude for his emancipation from serfdom, which brought him closer to the imperial family. Stylistically, this bust closely resembles his earlier works. Provenance: from the collection of Prince Frederick Charles Alexander of Prussia (1801–1883), brother-in-law of Tsar Nicholas I.
