Umbrella Pines. Landscape With Trees. Oil On Cardboard.
Oil on cardboard. Circa 1920. Signed but difficult to identify. This small landscape painting, undoubtedly Mediterranean, has a great deal of charm. In the foreground, we see an expanse of light, grassy land rendered with broad horizontal strokes, alternating greens, yellows, and ochres, suggesting dry terrain, perhaps a field or a country lane. The composition is structured by a row of umbrella pines. Their dense foliage, painted in deep, bluish greens, creates a striking contrast with the brightness of the ground and sky. On the right, we can see a few houses with pinkish-ochre facades. The sky occupies a prominent place, animated by clouds that appear to be in motion. The palette is dominated by muted greens, warm yellows, and delicate blues, evoking a summer or late spring atmosphere. The overall impression is one of calm and harmonious simplicity, revealing the landscape sensibility of the early 20th century, at the crossroads of late Impressionism and a restrained Post-Impressionism. The painting is in good condition despite some signs of wear. Dimensions: 27 × 19.5 cm
