Rare Protective Case For Seltzer Water Bottle – Late 19th Century – Curiosity/collectible
Rare Protective Case for Seltzer Water Bottle – Late 19th Century I present to you an exceptional object of scientific and technical curiosity: a protective case for a seltzer water bottle, dating from the late 19th century. At that time, the high pressure of the gas made glass explosions frequent; this device allowed the water to be served safely. The cylindrical steel body has a finely perforated base, designed to dissipate pressure while retaining glass shards. The upper section features a complex mechanism in solid brass, with an articulated arm, a spring-loaded striker, and a trigger lever to remotely operate the siphon valve. The dome opens in two parts thanks to a robust hinge system for inserting the bottle. This object, in its original condition with a beautiful patina, will delight collectors of curiosities, antique bistro items, or lovers of Steampunk and industrial aesthetics, but could also be easily transformed into a lamp base; the openwork sections could then diffuse a soft light and intrigue all your guests! An authentic and highly decorative piece, a testament to the technical ingenuity of the Belle Époque. In excellent condition, with a functional mechanism and original patina.
