Superb Caucasian rug originating from Armenia. Woven and knotted wool on wool using traditional methods. Beautiful, fairly thick pile; the wool is ultra-soft and silky. The colors are splendid, having retained their freshness and brilliance for about a century. The piece is like new. Typical composition of some Caucasian rugs with three large medallions on a plain madder red central field. Kazakh motifs. Each medallion contains a constellation of stars.
