Nude watercolor by Ludwik Kilmek. Ludwik (Ludwig in German) KLIMEK (1912-1992), of Polish origin, was born in Skoczów, 85 km from Krakow, in August 1912. A naturalized French citizen and resident of the French Riviera since 1947, he received a solid education at the Academy of Fine Arts in his hometown, from which he graduated. Leaving his country, then in the throes of the well-known upheavals, he arrived in Paris in March 1939 and found in France an environment conducive to the flourishing of his personality and talent, and to his taste for freedom. In Montparnasse, he worked in the studio of André Lothe and at the Grande Chaumière. At the Louvre, he was fascinated by the works of Titian, Goya, Rubens...
